Welcome to the Independent Schools Association of Zambia (ISAZ) Website. I am delighted to welcome all our surfers to our new and exciting website. The ISAZ presently has 36 member schools. We join the ISAZ with the objective of sharing old and new professional experiences and encouraging each other to do the best for the child. We aim at promoting local and internationalised connections to improve teaching and learning. These core activities are spiced by our great connectivity out-doors. ISAZ schools enjoy widespread mingling in sports and other co-curricular activities.
To succeed in leading our institutions and nations, we should be abreast with the concepts we teach and what is deserved of our learners. To this extent, we seize every opportunity that brings us together, to collaborate and bring about enhanced common good for all our institutions and communities.
It is important to note that membership of the ISAZ is not about challenging to be the best but to bring about sharing and development of educational concepts and skills among member schools, their teachers and children.
When schools are organised to support each other, the advantages of collegial action are varied and substantial. When schools work together, they produce greater coherence and integration to the daily work of academic pedagogy. Further, collaboration equips individual institutions for steady improvement. In short, it helps to organise the schools as environments for greater learning and teaching.
Two fundamental conditions appear to be crucial to joint action among schools: interdependence and opportunity.
The key practices of colleagues are most likely to make a difference where they are an integral, unavoidable part of day-to-day work. Teachers' main motivation and reward for involvement with one another is found in the work of teaching to the extent that they find themselves truly interdependent on one another. To manage and reap the rewards of teaching, joint work is worth the investment of time and other resources. The motivation to collaborate is weakened when teachers' success and satisfaction is achieved independently.
Joint action cannot occur where it is impossible or prohibitively costly in organisational, political, or personal terms. Teaching schedules, staff assignments, and access to resources are conducive to shared work. The value that is placed on shared work is both said and demonstrated: The opportunity for it is prominent in the schedule where the purpose for it is compelling; the task sufficiently challenging; the material resources and human assistance are made adequate and the accomplishments of individuals, groups or institutions are commended and celebrated.
We are thankful for the input of all our schools and wish each one of them greater successes for the future.
